Tidak ramai yang mengetahui bahawa pada peringkat awal kerjaya saya dahulu, saya pernah melalui pengalaman sebagai pengarah sebuah syarikat kontraktor G3 (waktu itu dikelaskan sebagai kontraktor kelas D).
Pengalaman tersebut memberi saya pendedahan secara langsung kepada pelbagai aspek industri pembinaan, antaranya:
✅ Penubuhan syarikat kontraktor pembinaan
✅ Pendaftaran dan pematuhan keperluan CIDB
✅ Proses penilaian dan peningkatan gred kontraktor (kelas F ke D)
Pengalaman ini membantu saya memahami realiti industri daripada perspektif yang lebih luas — bukan sahaja sebagai ahli akademik, tetapi juga daripada sudut pengurusan dan keusahawanan pembinaan.
Sebab itu apabila saya berkongsi mengenai:
🔹 Kad Hijau CIDB
🔹 SKKP dan kompetensi pembinaan
🔹 Penubuhan syarikat kontraktor
🔹 CIDB G1 hingga G7
🔹 TVET dan pembangunan kerjaya pembinaan
ia bukan sekadar berdasarkan teori, pembacaan atau kajian semata-mata, tetapi turut diperkukuhkan oleh pengalaman praktikal dalam industri.
Mungkin ada yang bertanya mengapa saya tidak meneruskan usaha sebagai kontraktor pembinaan.
Jawapannya mudah.
Saya memilih untuk memberi tumpuan kepada dunia akademik, penyelidikan dan pembangunan modal insan kerana saya percaya impak seorang pendidik boleh melangkaui satu projek atau satu syarikat.
Jika seorang kontraktor mampu membina sebuah bangunan, seorang pendidik berpeluang membantu membina ratusan jurutera, pengurus pembinaan, usahawan dan kontraktor masa hadapan yang akan membangunkan negara.
Walaupun syarikat tersebut telah lama dibubarkan, pengalaman dan pengajaran yang diperoleh terus membentuk cara saya mengajar, menyelia penyelidikan dan berinteraksi dengan pihak industri sehingga hari ini.
Justeru, apabila saya bercakap mengenai industri pembinaan, kompetensi, TVET dan pembangunan kontraktor, ia lahir daripada gabungan pengalaman akademik, penyelidikan dan pengalaman sebenar dalam industri.
Nota: Syarikat tersebut telah dibubarkan secara rasmi bertahun-tahun yang lalu dan perkongsian ini dibuat semata-mata untuk tujuan pendidikan serta perkongsian pengalaman profesional kepada pelajar dan penggiat industri pembinaan.

Many people know me today as an academic and researcher in Construction Management. However, not many know that early in my career, I also had the opportunity to serve as a Director of a Grade G3 contractor company (used to be called as contractor Class D).
That experience provided me with first-hand exposure to many aspects of the construction industry, including:
Establishing a construction company CIDB registration and regulatory compliance Contractor grading and upgrading processes (class F to D)
These experiences helped me understand the construction industry from a broader perspective — not only as an academic, but also from the viewpoint of construction entrepreneurship and business management.
That is why when I speak about:

my views are not based solely on theory, research papers, or classroom teaching, but are also strengthened by practical industry experience.
Some people may ask why I did not continue my journey as a contractor.
The answer is simple.
I chose to focus on academia, research, and talent development because I believe the impact of an educator can extend far beyond a single project or a single company.
If a contractor builds a building, an educator has the opportunity to help build hundreds of future engineers, construction managers, entrepreneurs, and contractors who will contribute to the nation’s development.
Although the company was officially dissolved many years ago, the lessons and experiences gained from that journey continue to shape the way I teach, supervise research, and collaborate with industry partners today.
Therefore, when I speak about the construction industry, competency development, TVET, and contractor growth, my perspective comes from a combination of academic experience, research, and real-world industry exposure.
