Salah satu perkara yang saya beri perhatian dalam pembangunan kebolehpasaran pelajar BPC ialah Kad Hijau CIDB.
Bagi pekerja industri pembinaan, kad ini bukan sekadar satu kad tambahan. Ia merupakan antara keperluan penting bagi personel binaan yang ingin bekerja dan berada di tapak pembinaan.
Sebab itu, saya melihat pendedahan dan pendaftaran Kad Hijau semasa masih bergelar pelajar sebagai satu nilai tambah yang sangat berguna.
Namun, daripada pengalaman terdahulu, saya melihat satu masalah yang sering berlaku.
Ada pelajar yang telah menghadiri kursus sehari bagi tujuan pendaftaran Kad Hijau secara individu, tetapi selepas kursus selesai, proses mereka terhenti di situ.
Ada yang tidak membuat susulan pendaftaran dalam sistem.
Ada yang tidak pasti apakah langkah seterusnya.
Ada juga yang akhirnya masih belum menerima kad walaupun latihan telah lama dihadiri.
Masalahnya bukan kerana pelajar tidak mahu.
Kadangkala mereka hanya tidak memahami bahawa menghadiri kursus bukan bermaksud keseluruhan proses pendaftaran telah selesai.
Di sinilah saya melihat perlunya satu pendekatan yang lebih tersusun.
Sebagai penyelaras program, matlamat saya bukan sekadar memastikan pelajar “pergi kursus”.
Saya mahu memastikan proses itu benar-benar sampai ke penghujungnya:
pendaftaran → latihan → dokumentasi → kemas kini sistem → susulan → Kad Hijau diterima oleh pelajar.
Atas sebab itu, pelaksanaan Program Perintis Mahir Bina (PROPMAB) dengan kerjasama UTHM dan Akademi Binaan Malaysia Wilayah Selatan turut dilihat sebagai satu penyelesaian yang lebih menyeluruh.
Melalui penyelarasan secara berkumpulan bersama pihak CIDB ini, proses dapat dipantau dengan lebih sistematik dan masalah yang biasanya berlaku apabila pelajar menguruskan semuanya secara individu dapat dikurangkan.
Hasilnya, daripada proses penyelarasan awal sehingga Kad Hijau berada di tangan pelajar, keseluruhan proses dapat diselesaikan dalam tempoh kurang daripada dua bulan.
Bagi saya, inilah fungsi sebenar penyelarasan program.
Bukan sekadar menganjurkan aktiviti.
Tetapi mengenal pasti jurang, memahami keperluan industri, mencari penyelesaian dan memastikan manfaat itu benar-benar sampai kepada pelajar.
Melalui PROPMAB, pelajar bukan sahaja mendapat pendedahan kepada kemahiran pembinaan dan penilaian kompetensi, malah mereka turut dibantu mendapatkan satu lagi keperluan penting untuk memasuki persekitaran industri pembinaan dengan lebih bersedia.
Apabila mereka bergraduasi nanti, sekurang-kurangnya satu proses penting telah pun mereka selesaikan lebih awal.
Kadang-kadang nilai sesuatu program bukan hanya pada apa yang berlaku ketika latihan berlangsung, tetapi pada masalah yang berjaya diselesaikan selepas itu.
Sedikit demi sedikit, kita cuba kurangkan jurang antara pelajar universiti dan bakal tenaga kerja industri.

CIDB Green Card: It Is Not Just About Attending a Course, but Completing the Process
One of the areas I have prioritised in strengthening the employability of BPC students is the CIDB Green Card.
For construction personnel, the Green Card is not merely an additional credential. It is an important requirement for those who intend to work and enter construction sites.
That is why I see early exposure to, and registration for, the CIDB Green Card while students are still at university as a valuable advantage.
However, based on previous experience, I noticed a recurring issue.
Some students had already attended a one-day course for Green Card registration on their own, but the process stopped there.
Some did not follow up on their registration in the system.
Some were unsure of the next step.
Some had completed the course much earlier but still had not received their physical Green Card.
The problem was not necessarily a lack of interest.
In many cases, students simply did not realise that attending the course does not mean the entire registration process has been completed.
This was where I saw the need for a more structured approach.
As the programme coordinator, my responsibility was not simply to ensure that students “attended a course”.
I wanted to make sure that the process was completed from beginning to end:
registration → training → documentation → system update → follow-up → Green Card received by the student
This was one of the reasons why the PROPMAB programme became a much more practical and comprehensive solution.
Through coordinated registration and implementation with CIDB, the process could be monitored more systematically, reducing the likelihood of students being left halfway through the process when managing everything individually.
The outcome was encouraging.
From the initial coordination until the CIDB Green Cards were physically in the students’ hands, the entire process was completed in less than two months.
For me, this is what programme coordination should ultimately achieve.
It is not only about organising activities.
It is about identifying gaps, understanding industry requirements, finding workable solutions, coordinating the process, and ensuring that the intended benefit actually reaches the students.
Through PROPMAB, students were not only exposed to practical construction skills and competency assessment, but were also supported in obtaining an important requirement that will help prepare them for entry into the construction industry.
By the time they graduate, at least one important industry-related process has already been completed.
Sometimes, the real value of a programme is not only in what happens during the training, but in the problems it successfully solves afterwards.
Step by step, the aim is to reduce the gap between being a university student and becoming an industry-ready construction professional.
